After four hours and two minutes, ‘the longest 44 seconds’ of Andy’s life
Tuesday 28th April 2009, 2:29PM BST.
GUERNSEY runners did the island proud at the London Marathon.
FIA triple World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx (pictured) finished the 26.2 miles in ‘four hours two minutes and the longest 44 seconds of my life.
‘Certainly the last mile was the hardest. Mind you, sitting next to Gordon Ramsay having a massage was quite impressive,’ said Mr Priaulx.
He said his feet were sore, but it was one of the most satisfying events he had ever taken part in.
‘When the end was in sight, the real sense of exactly what you have achieved hit home.’
Mr Priaulx was running to raise awareness and money for the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation – a charity he and wife Jo founded.
‘I am still waiting for the final figures, but I have already had lots of friends and supporters telling me they have donated.
‘This money will go to help a lot of people,’ he said.
KPMG employee Ross Kneller, 26, achieved his aim of finishing his first marathon in under four hours with a time of 3-54-53.
Mr Kneller, who was raising money for Sense, a charity for deaf-blind adults and children, said he set off too quickly and, at 22 miles and with conditions hotter than expected, started to struggle.
