A CHARITY quiz has raised over £1,500 for the Georgina’s Gang appeal.

More than 150 people took part in the event, which was organised by a team of employees at Yorkshire Guernsey. Staff had been overwhelmed by the response they had from local businesses and the event was oversubscribed a week after it was announced.

Sarah Mead founded the charity to help raise £90,000 to help Georgina Pearce and her family.

Georgina, 12, has been diagnosed with Niemann-Pick, a rare disease that causes early dementia. Money raised will go towards adapting her family home so that Georgina can reman there as her illness progresses. The appeal will also provide vital funds for medical research into the condition.

Georgina’s neighbour Helen Moorat, an employee of Yorkshire Guernsey, was desperate to help raise money for the cause.

‘We began sending out invites to local firms and their sports and social clubs about eight weeks ago.

‘We had 26 teams sign up,’ said Mrs Moorat, who helped organise the evening.

St Pierre Park Hotel hosted the event and offered use of the function room for free.

Georgina’s parents, Ian and Tania Pearce, have thanked all islanders for their continued support by attending events as well as organising them. ‘It was fantastic that the quiz night was a sell-out, Helen and Yorkshire Guernsey staff did an outstanding job and everyone that I have spoken to have said they had a fun night,’ said Mrs Pearce.
