Will local man be the saviour of the Saints?

Wednesday 29th April 2009, 2:30PM BST.

Quentin HubbardA GUERNSEY businessman could be set to become the new owner of Southampton Football Club.

Rumours were rife yesterday on online forums related to the Nationwide Championship club that Quinten Hubbard (pictured), a property developer who lives in the island, and his business partner, Ben Steele, would buy the Saints ‘within 24 hours’.

The club is in desperate need of a saviour after its parent company, Southampton Leisure Holdings plc, went into administration. It was able to pay its players last Thursday only thanks to donations of around £130,000 from fans.

Saturday’s home draw with Burnley saw the team relegated to League One.

Mr Hubbard, who is in his 30s and  plays local cricket for Rovers, is believed to be a fan of the club.

He was in Southampton yesterday, it is thought to discuss the deal with the club’s board, though he declined to make any comment to the media.

I hope that this guy goes ahead with the takeover and also hope that he has the best interests of the club at heart. Unlike Rupert Lowe and the bunch of leeches that have been in charge over the last several years. Southampton FC is a sleeping giant and simply needs awakening by somebody with both business sense and a passion for football. Hopefully these two guys fit the bill.

Good luck to the guy but I dont think you can call him a Guernsey businessman Guernsey based would be more to the point as he is not a Guernseyman

I do so hope Mr Hubbard succeeds in his quest to purchase Southampton Football Club. I have been a fan of saints since first going to watch then in 1940 during the war. I am an official Stadium Tour Guide at the St Mary’s stadium and can tell him it is a magnificent stadium and the club has a great fan base. I’ll show him around.

I have Guernsey connections and would love a man with Guernsey connections to be my boss. I hope he gets Matt Le Tissier alongside him in some capacity.

    Herbie Taylor Southampton.

Does this resolve our need for a Guernsey side competing in UK league? If we can get them to change name to Guernsey Saints, and with local feeder clubs…they surely will be on the up
