A DRAMATIC final game shoot-out between two of the island’s best juniors decided this season’s Carey Olsen Island Team League title.
With their teammates having shared the previous four rubbers, the stage was set for the decider with Yorkshire Guernsey’s captain Natalie Dodd playing her higher-ranked NRG rival, Issey Norman-Ross.
Despite winning the first game, Norman-Ross lost the next two and it seemed the momentum had shifted for the first time in Yorkshire Guernsey’s favour.
However, a determined effort from Norman-Ross brought the match level at 2-2, leaving a single game to determine the winning team in this season’s league.
Both players appeared to be struggling physically and had to dig deep to keep their legs moving and rackets swinging.
Cheered on by their teammates between every point, the match reached a critical score of 9-9.
A shot from Norman-Ross went back at herself leading to a penalty stroke, giving Dodd a match point.
Seconds later, a Dodd’s drop shot on the backhand side at the front of the court bounced twice before Norman-Ross could retrieve it giving the match and the trophy to Yorkshire Guernsey.
