Heartbreak mum’s tribute to ‘the lights of our lives’

Thursday 30th April 2009, 2:30PM BST.

Ryan Martel and Frankie ChapellTHE mother of Ryan Martel and Frankie Chapell has paid a heartbreaking tribute to her only children.

Sally Martel formally released a statement yesterday describing her and the family’s loss, just a few months after the death of her father.

The two were in a car that was washed off a Cornish lane into a river during flash floods early on Saturday morning.

The body of Mr Martel, 26, was formally identified on Tuesday afternoon but Miss Chapell, 17, has yet to be found. Police confirmed yesterday that they have called off the search.

In her tribute, Mrs Martel talked of the family’s devastation.

‘They were both so full of fun and loved by us all,’ she said. ‘Whenever they were around, they lit up our lives. They have made us so proud during their short time on earth.’
