Constables have to sell before building
Friday 1st May 2009, 2:29PM BST.
THE plans for a new St Peter Port constables’ office will be put on hold if a buyer for the current building is not found.
The constables are hoping to raise £1.5m. for the £2.5m. project from the sale of the Lefebvre Street building, which is more than 200 years old, is listed, has no indoor toilets and needs a lot work.
Senior constable Jenny Tasker (pictured) was optimistic the building would be sold.
‘We need to sell it before we get moving,’ she said. ‘If we don’t it will put an end to the project.’
The constables and douzeniers laid out the plans for the new building at a meeting last night at Beau Sejour.
More than 40 parishioners attended, keen to hear more about the plans for the Les Cotils site.
One of the concerns raised was the fact the constables would need to lease the land for the new offic, and there was a risk of rising rent. However, the constables were quick to reassure their audience.
‘The parish would obtain a lease for 125 years for the site,’ said Deputy Tasker.

Guernsey’s history being ripped apart by English retirees voted in by about 12 people, both empire building.
I find this astoundng that the seat of St PPs Constables can do this without any of our island Deputies even raising an eyebrow.

Get it right. 13 not 12!!!
More importantly, how can an aditional million be justified during the current economic crisis.
As Jackie says the thing we should worry about is that this extravagance has not raidsed any protest from the deputies.
