‘Review results should be public’

THE Wales Audit Office backs releasing the findings of its review into whether the States is fit for purpose.
It has been called in by the Public Accounts Committee to carry out a corporate governance investigation, but the PAC has not yet committed to making the results public.
The WAO was in the island this week as part of its work, interviewing interested parties.
The Auditor General for Wales, Jeremy Colman (pictured), said that practice varied on whether authorities released reviews.
‘I would encourage the Public Accounts Committee and the States to publish our report in some form,’ said Mr Colman.
‘In general, these reports are undertaken to provide assurance and you can’t provide assurance by not telling people things. It will be good for the main messages to be communicated, otherwise it will have no effect.’
The WAO has asked for the public to get in touch with their views on the States as it finds out whether it has effective management arrangements in place to help deliver long-lasting, value for money, services.
But some have criticised the timing of the review and the burden it places on the States.
