Guernsey 0, Jersey 1
A STUNNING strike from Lisa McLaughlin deservedly regained Jersey the Women’s Muratti trophy yesterday at the Track.

Although no one could fault the home side’s endeavour, the red-and-whites were the better side and had it not been for the heroics of player-of-the-match Kayleigh Marquis in the Guernsey goal as well as some stout defence, the margin could have been greater.

However, Guernsey coach Paul Mooney had only words of praise for his squad.

‘That’s the best I have seen them play in any match this season,’ he said.

‘I thought it was outstanding the way they played for me today. We just could not get it in the net.

‘I am gutted for them.’

Mooney was not helped by the loss of one of his star players a couple of days ago when Lisa Sylvester, who attended the game on crutches, injured her leg in the most innocuous of ways.

‘It happened, believe it or not, when she was getting off the couch at home,’ the coach said.
