MORE than 900 islanders took part in yesterday’s World Aid Walk.
Market Square was busy with walkers eager to set off on the 20-kilometre walk and the countdown saw some enthusiastic youngsters rush to start.
Bridget Aegerter, 40, had brought along her daughter, Beatrice, 7, and her best friend Emmie, 8, and her mother, Alison Bougourd.
She said Beatrice was looking forward to it and seemed unconcerned about the distance that they would have to cover.
‘It needs to be a fair distance for people to sponsor us, otherwise it’s not a challenge.
‘We’re taking flapjacks, drinks and plasters,’ she said.
Thirteen-year-old James Rabey was doing the walk with a group of friends for the second or third time and was eager to get going as he stood on the starting line. ‘It’s fun because you get to hang out with each other,’ he said.
Amy David, 10, was walking for the first time with her dad, Jonathon.
‘I wanted to do it because it looks really fun and I’ve asked my family to sponsor me,’ she said.
