Savident smashes a hundred to announce his return
Wednesday 6th May 2009, 2:29PM BST.
LEE SAVIDENT had a domestic league debut to remember on Sunday.
The former Hampshire professional, who returned to the island recently to become head coach at the new Indoor Cricket Guernsey centre, hit 161 opening the batting for Optimists-Rovers at Port Soif in their victory over Guernsey Academy in the first match of the 2009 NatWest CI League.
‘For a first knock back, it was nice,’ said Savident (pictured).
His innings came off 137 balls and contained 18 fours.
It also saw him hit three booming sixes in a row over mid-wicket off the left-arm spin of island all-rounder Jeremy Frith.
He eventually went in the final over looking to push the total up higher.
He was helped with a fast-paced 69 from ORs’ stand-in captain Andy Biggins.
