Service solves the problem of firms that do not ship to the islands

Wednesday 6th May 2009, 2:29PM BST.

Mail parcelsSHOPPING could soon be made easier for islanders, thanks to Jersey Post.

This summer the company will launch Ship2me, a service that will provide islanders with the opportunity to receive goods from companies which have previously not delivered to Guernsey.

Under the scheme, residents and business communities in the Channel Islands will be able to buy from retail outlets and online retailers in the UK and elsewhere in the EU using Ship2me’s UK warehouse as the delivery address.

From there items will be delivered to a customer’s address – normally within three working days – with telephone or email notification of delivery.

An easy route for reclaiming VAT will also be available.

Managing director of Jersey Post Group’s new Enterprise Division, Gary Whipp, said the new service would give Channel Islanders the same retail opportunities as those enjoyed by consumers on the British mainland and on the Continent.

‘Ship2me will open up outlets not previously accessible to islanders by offering an affordable and reliable delivery service. The beauty of the service is that it is specifically designed to deliver a whole variety of items from a pair of shoes to a three-piece suite at very affordable prices,’ he said.

I am well aware that this has nothing to do with the above media but at first glance I was hoping this venture was going to be the brainchild of LT the CM.

At least then the secondary surplus ship that he squandered everyone’s money on would start to get some productive use and maybe even earn something towards its keep.

Instead of being at anchor waiting for an incident or something else to happen so that we are relieved of the burden.

I just think it is now time we heard about what this vessel has been doing other than nothing at all actually.

Well it has been depreciating and costing even more good money for all the other services that vessels of this nature attract.

Is any answers going to come out in the public domain or is it just yet another costly mistake that will be swept under the carpet and forgotten about along with all the others?

It would be nice if the CM could actually take the time to answer these points himself with facts and figures. I won’t hold my breath though!

I class myself as someone that this man claims to represent. The reality though is he feels as though he is a one man band with all the bells and whistles to boot.

The least he could do is spend a few minutes and answer a few simple questions seeing as through he drove the deal through with next to no consultation from anybody else.

Do other posters feel questions need to be answered? If there is enough people then he cant ignore everybody?

The alternate tanker Sarnia Liberty (formerly Vedrey Thor) is still anchored in Liverpool where it has been since the afternoon of January 19.

I seem to recall the claim that both ships would make money.

Perhaps there will be an explanation how a ship at long term anchorage can make money.

Maybe I could have been a little bit hasty. It might well appear that the new vessels are producing some form of shell fish that the CM will obligingly name after himself?

The anchored Sarnia Liberty looks to be in very good condition so the conversion to a prison ship for HM Prison Service could be a winner.(LOL)
