A COUPLE who met during the war are set to be the star attraction at a Liberation Day celebration organised by their care home.
Sylvia and Frank Knight, aged 83 and 86, are the newest residents at Les Ormes and the inspiration behind tomorrow’s 1940s buffet.
Matron Annemarie Howland, who has a passion for the 1940s, said she had found the couple’s life stories fascinating.
‘Their stories are heart-warming and demonstrate the reasons why we celebrate Liberation Day.’
Mrs Knight was on the last boat to leave Guernsey before the Occupation.
Only 14 years old, she left her grandparents and father behind.
But on Christmas Eve 1942 she met Frank on a blind date – they have now been married for 64 years.

I’ll show Frank and Sylvia your kind words.
The celebration was well attended and we all had a jolly good time.
Best Wishes, Matron.

Aw shucks Annemarie. now you’re making us all shy, but on my part being in their age group, and having *lived* that occupation. Is why I feel cheerful when I read of such stories.
The ’40.s were a bit of a “livener” Matron, but we’re still around; and those that are not. are not forgotten.
