Emma flies the flag for Liberation in Bramley

Saturday 9th May 2009, 2:29PM BST.

Emma CunninghamLIBERATION Day will come to a small town in the south of England tonight.

Former Guernsey resident – and the 2009 face of the WI – Emma Cunningham (pictured) is bringing a sprinkling of 40s glamour to her home town with a Liberation-themed ball.

The mother of two is a member of Bramley WI Lite and, when their ball fell on 9 May this year, it was too good an opportunity to miss.

‘I suggested a Liberation theme but no one else on the Bramley WI Lite Committee had any idea what Liberation Day was.

‘What shocked me the most was that most of them had no idea the Channel Islands had been occupied in the first place,’ said Miss Cunningham.

She explained about the Liberation and persuaded the group to host a 40s-themed ball to celebrate.

‘So today, in a small hotel somewhere between Basingstoke and Reading, 90 people will get information overload as I make it my personal mission to educate them all about the occupation of the Channel Islands and their subsequent liberation,’ said Miss Cunningham.

It’s not quite true that people in Bramley know nothing of the German occupation of the Channel Island during the second World War. There are a few people living there who have relatives on the lovely island of Sark and who know about those dreadful times.

    Anyway, have a lovely time.

I wonder if we will be liberated from the UK and their EU/US masters.
