COMPLACENCY saw the end of Gage Demore’s Junior ABA National Championships adventure.

The highly-rated local lightweight reached the quarter-finals of the ABAs in Bristol at the weekend.

But up against the less experienced Felix Cash of Guildford, the 15-year-old Western Counties champion lost on points.

‘He wasn’t really up for it,’ said the island’s head coach Graham Guilbert.

‘He was all right warming up but maybe he was too confident as his bloke hadn’t had as many bouts.

‘I thought he was up for the title but he blew it.

‘He had every chance of beating the lad but he didn’t get going until the last round and it was too late by then. He knows he should have had it.

‘Maybe he was too complacent.’
