AN ISLANDER has been appointed as the Scouts’ first UK chief commissioner.

Wayne Bulpitt (pictured), who lives in Guernsey with wife Julie and children Alastair, 19, and Francesca, 17, will manage all the Scouts volunteers – the association has half a million members and about 90,000 adult leaders.

He will also be responsible for building relationships with political parties, charities and other organisations.

‘I am delighted to have been invited to take on the new role and lead our movement in such an exciting time.

‘The successes of the last few years mean that we are well placed to capitalise on our high profile and fulfil our vision of providing inspiration, personal development and exciting opportunities to increasing numbers of young people,’ he said.

He added that this could be done only by providing increased support to volunteers.
