Tuesday 19th May 2009, 2:29PM BST.

Sir Peter BlakeSIXTIES pop art icon Sir Peter Blake is opening an exhibition of his latest work in Guernsey ahead of its showing at the Tate Britain.

Entitled Venice Suite, the work will be displayed at The Greenhouse as part of the College of Further Education’s International Artist in Residence Programme.

Sir Peter, 77 (pictured), will also take part in a lecture chaired by Mark Ellen, former host of the BBC’s music magazine show Old Grey Whistle Test, in an event dubbed Music Meets Art.

Sir Peter is most famous for his iconic album cover for the Beatles’ album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and designing the sleeve for the original Band Aid single in 1985.

Eric Snell, director of the artist in residence programme, hopes the meeting of the two will build on the success of the previous visit from sculptor Antony Gormley, famous for the Angel of the North, whose work is displayed at Castle Cornet.
