Oliver SalmonA TEN-YEAR-OLD boy who saved his unconscious mother has received an award for bravery at the inaugural St John Ambulance and Rescue presentation evening.

Oliver Salmon, 10 (pictured), received a special award for acting exceptionally responsibly and courageously when he found his mother lying unconscious one morning.

Assistant Senior Ambulance Officer Malcolm Mechem took Oliver’s call at 8.39am on Monday 13 April.

‘A lot of the time when somebody calls the emergency services they are hysterical or sound very upset, but Oliver was so strong and kept it all together,’ he said.

‘He did what was best for his mum by being calm and calling 999, then explaining where the ambulance should go.

‘I was taken aback by how young he sounded. He is a great example for someone his age.’

Oliver followed instructions to help his mother in her moment of need and provided detailed instructions for the ambulance driver, which helped the crew get to his house near L’Ancresse in around seven minutes.
