Fourth arrest in tip case
Thursday 21st May 2009, 2:00PM BST.
ANOTHER skip company director has been arrested as the investigation into alleged fraud at the tip continued yesterday.
It brings to four the number of people helping police with their inquiries.
Industry sources have suggested that hundreds of thousands of pounds of public funds may have gone missing.
After a lengthy investigation, police simultaneously arrested two public services employees and a skip company director on Tuesday morning.
All four have been questioned and released on bail.
It is understood that the inquiry centres on either undercharging or not charging for refuse going to landfill.
There is still no confirmation of the amount of money potentially involved from police or the Public Services Department, which has responsibility for the tip.
Last year, the operating income for refuse disposal and land reclamation was £1.98m.
