Guillou recovers to register best finish
Saturday 23rd May 2009, 12:00PM BST.
PHIL GUILLOU had mixed fortunes on his latest trip to Snetterton.
The local British 250GP Championship racer had a frustrating round five when, after establishing himself high up the field, he fell back and ended finishing 13th following a re-start at the East Anglian track.
But in round six the following day, he had his best finish to date when he crossed the line in sixth on his Yamaha TZ250.
‘Saturday, I was a little bit disappointed when I was lying in fifth place and then having a bad start at the re-start, but Sunday’s race was really good,’ he said.
‘It was a really strong race.’
In wet conditions for qualifying for round five, Guillou had a tough time and found himself 10th on the grid.
The conditions dried for the first race but it remained very windy.
Guillou had a good start and was away with the leaders in fifth up to lap six when the race was stopped for a crash at the end of the 150mph straight.
The race was re-run over a shorter distance and the racers started in the positions that they finished the first race. With Guillou fifth on the grid, he suffered bike problems and got away dead last.
‘It [the engine] got too hot waiting on the line waiting for the re-start,’ he said.
In a bid to work out what went wrong with the bike, Guillou went out in the support race, for which he qualified in pole.
