GUERNSEY may have lost the final but it was mission accomplished and they are on their way to Singapore.

The Greens’ emphatic 263-run victory over Suriname at the KGV on Saturday booked their place in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division Six that is being held in Singapore from 30 August to 5 September.

‘Job done. Our aim was to get to Singapore,’ said Guernsey manager Dave Hearse, whose side join Bahrain in Division Six after the Bahrainis finished top of the round robin stage of the competition.

As second-placed finishers, the Sarnians met Bahrain in the final at the KGV yesterday.

Guernsey put up a terrific effort but ultimately just failed to defend 204 and lost by three wickets as all-rounder Qamar Saeed hit an unbeaten 55 to add to his five-wicket haul earlier.

The top two will now face Singapore, Malaysia, Botswana and Norway in the Division Six competition.

The ICC World Cricket League structure gives nations a pathway to qualify for the World Cup.
