ALISON TORODE was horrified when her 14-year-old son found a hypodermic needle in the stream at their home.

Vale resident Mrs Torode said she wanted to warn other people to be careful when cleaning their douits.

Her son, Peter, offered to do their section because she has a bad back.

Mrs Torode said it was fortunate that the boy had the sense to use pliers to pick up the needle.

‘Another, younger, child might not have been so lucky,’ she said.

Peter took the syringe straight to his dad.

‘There was no way I was going to touch it,’ the St Sampson’s High student said.

‘It would be very easy to get hurt with this sort of thing and you never know what it has been used for.’
