WHAT a bank holiday weekend for L’Ancresse Golf Club.
Not only were two of their number involved in a fantastic Island Championship final on Sunday, but yesterday their team won the Guernsey final of the Hampshire Sevens against their hosts at La Grande Mare.
‘I’m very, very happy because it was a potential banana skin for us,’ said team captain Steve Mahy, who earned one of his side’s points in the 4.5-2.5 victory.
‘It’s tricky coming here to face La Grande Mare, but as long as you keep it in play and try to get off to a good start you have always got a chance.
‘I think it also helped that a few of our guys have been members down here in the past.’
Island star Mahy led by example in the first match out against LGM stalwart Hedley Ablitt.
