NICK SAUNDERS warmed up for the ‘national’ with another fastest time of the day on Le Val des Terres yesterday.

On Saturday 18 July, the British Speed Hill Climbing Championship comes to Guernsey and Saunders in his single seater EI Sturdza Reynick racing car hopes to qualify and mix it with the best hill climbers in the country.

And in yesterday’s Guernsey Kart & Motor Club’s hill climb, the last meeting before the big one, the 35-year-old was again the quickest driver of the meeting as he went up in 30.43sec.

‘It was going good,’ he said.

‘I just wish I can do it [get the fastest time of the day] next time but I don’t see that happening. It was nice to get a low 30 before the national.

‘I’m hoping to get a low 30 then. I’m going to have to do that to get into the run-offs.’

After the thunderstorms the previous night, the road was slippery in the morning.

But as it dried out during the afternoon, class records began to be broken.
