Loss of Ideal job is a nightmare, says family man

Wednesday 27th May 2009, 2:29PM BST.

A FORMER Ideal Contractors employee is angry that he has been made redundant.

Yesterday the company announced that over the last two weeks eight members of staff had been given one week’s notice.

The man, who asked not to be named, said he had asked for reassurances when he was taken on at the start of the year that his job would be safe.

‘Everyone that’s gone started within a month at the start of the year. The five of us on Friday were given one week’s notice.

‘I feel let down – it’s a difficult time as it is at the moment to find a job and in general there is nothing about,’ he said.

‘When a company has a busy period it should not be taking on loads of staff and then letting them go.’

Five members of staff were let go on Friday and three the previous Friday.

With all these local builders being made redundant, could someone please explain why there are scores of UK based workers over here taking jobs from locals ?
Also Latvians, many sleeping on site.
Lots of UK workers are living at “abandoned hotels” such as The Manor Hotel.
Does anyone ever check if they have “right to work permits”
And for that matter, when has anyone ever been prosecuted for not having a right to work document ?
Is this law a complete waste of taxpayers money ?

I think there are a lot of illegal workers over here. Some get caught but very few. The hostels (ex hotels) are full of people – is housing checking these places out? Housing have a hard job – they cannot be everywhere all the time. They rely on people reporting problems to them and social security.

Builders are still trying to charge an absolute fortune for small jobs – if they made their prices more realistic they might not have to make workers redundant.
