Police interview retired workers in tip inquiry

Wednesday 27th May 2009, 11:30AM BST.

Mont CuetA FAR-REACHING investigation into alleged fraud at Mont Cuet will take months, police have said.

It is understood that among the people who have already been questioned were former employees who retired from the landfill site some years ago.

One man, who did not wish to be named, said he had been questioned despite not having worked there in the last two years, suggested that the investigation regards activity stretched back further than previously indicated.

Detective Sergeant Andy Whitton, of the police’s commercial fraud department, said there was already a great deal of information for his team to work through.

‘The investigation is in its early stages.

‘There is a lot going on and it will be some months. This won’t be quick,’ he said.

He said no public appeal for information had been launched as yet.

the only thing thats silly is your silly comment.

a crime has been committed and its their job to investigate, thats what their paid for unless you want a police force that just turns a blind eye to crime.

Luke have you worked out the sum of money involved here?

It’s a bit *more than the odd sofa being dumped for free at mates rates.

*Note. For ‘more’ in this case substitute the words “several million pounds”
