Nick BranchTHE Guernsey Rifle Club team not only managed to take the team award in the annual match against the National Rifle Association but local marksmen also took the honours in the two individual competitions.

Rob Waters managed to score the only maximum in the Parker Trophy at 300 and 600 yards and became only the second Guernseyman to win the trophy against a strong contingent of UK marksmen and women.

His score of 100.12 ex 100.20 was closely followed by Henry Sanders (NRA) on 99.14, who tied with local Richard Perkins but took the runner-up spot by virtue of having the higher score at the longer range.

In the competition for the Guernsey Can, it was Nick Branch (pictured) who came out on top as he carefully built a maximum 100.13 ex 100.20 at 500 and 600 yards to take the trophy from Steve Postins (NRA) on 100.11.

Waters came close to doing the double, but he got caught out by the tricky wind at 600 yards and his eighth shot found the inner, leaving him on 99.15 and in third place.

There were no fewer than seven scores of 99 and it was obvious that the scene was set for an exciting team match.
