As of 31 March the value of the superannuation fund was £665m. compared to £718m. at the end of last year.

The figure for the contingency fund stands at £212m., dropping from £224m. on 31 December.

In addition, Social Security released its investment fund total, which stood at £488m. at the end of March. That is divided into the Guernsey Insurance Fund, Guernsey Health Service Fund and Long-Term Care Insurance Fund. Again, the amount had dropped from £518m. at the end of December.

‘The first quarter of 2009 saw further falls in global stock markets,’ said Social Security minister Deputy Mark Dorey.

‘But there has been a significant upturn in April and May. If the recent recovery in markets holds, the figures for the second quarter should look much better.’
