JUDGES Alwyn and Ann Varley, whose expertise is very much in demand all over the UK, paid their first visit to Guernsey as judges for the first day showing phase of the BSJA Spring Show at the weekend.

They were very complimentary about the level of turnout and quality of the animals presented to them, many of which would do well on the UK circuit.

In the junior section in ring one, honours were well spread out, but it was Bureside Thunderbolt, ridden by Becky Travers, who took the championship with Ellie Hindle on Kouros Charisma in reserve position.

In ring two, local judge Debbie Le Noury had the unenviable task of sorting out the veteran horses and ponies, the young rider and young handler classes and at the end of their session the fancy dress.

In this class particularly competition was extremely hot and the costumes highly imaginative and it was Chloe Uttley as the Tooth Fairy who was the eventual winner.

Youngest competitor was Regan Penney at just four months old who was so totally overawed by the occasion he slept soundly in his (Jack in the) Box until the presentation of the rosettes.
