Aimee Ponte, pictured with caddie Bobby Eggo, is island women’s golf champion after a sensational and fairytale end to her 36 holes final against former title-holder Kay Mapley at L’Ancresse yesterday.
One down at lunch the St Sampson’s High Year 8 pupil, slipped three holes adrift on the back nine of the last 18 before a storming finish culminated in her holing a 30-footer for birdie on the last to force sudden-death extra holes.
It was in playing the first for the third time of the day that the youngster clinched the title with a par to Mapley’s bogey.
