YOU should never think it is over until it is over.

That is what Optimists-Rovers must be thinking after their seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Argyll Investments in the GCA Championship on Saturday.

On a flat KGV track, and without their two big guns, Lee Savident and Tim Duke, they set Argylls a modest target of 207.

And having dismissed Argylls’ main batsman, GH Smit, for 52, ORs were eyeing up another victory.

But instead the team that many people are tipping for the NatWest CI League title suffered their first defeat of the season as a fourth-wicket stand of 122 runs between Arun Ayyavooraju and Dave Hooper saw Argylls home.

‘Of course it is disappointing to lose, but fair play to those two lads, they batted well under pressure,’ said ORs’ off-spinner Aaron Scoones.

‘Missing Savident and Duke is no excuse. We just did not play well enough. We didn’t get the rub of the green, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.

‘We’ll bounce back.’
