THERE were some great performances from swimmers competing in the NRG International Open Meet staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club.

A level-two licence for the event ensured a good entry in terms of numbers competing, but meant that swimmers who entered times faster than the qualifying standard could not claim awards, but swim as an exhibition only.

This affected a number of Island Games swimmers who were unperturbed as they are currently in heavy training and used the event mainly for race practice.

The highest scoring swim of the meet came from Rebecca Le Maistre of Tigers (Jersey), with her 400m individual medley in the 16-plus age group, where she recorded 5-03.48 – a time that earned her 744 GB points and best girl award in her age group.

Ben Lowndes of Guernsey Swimming Club received the equivalent male award for his 100m butterfly time of 57.41 and 718 GB points.

Lowndes, together with several seniors including Jeremy Osborne, swam a number of exhibitions in their strongest events, producing some promising times for the fast approaching Games.
