THE Guernsey Gaels are eyeing up big things after last weekend’s annual Gaelic Football Sevens Tournament at Port Soif.
Due to the recession, only four visiting teams took part.
But Guernsey Gaels president John Payne is confident that next year’s event will be bigger and better.
The Irishman said that the Adamstown Club from Dublin, who made their debut in the competition, are planning to bring their junior teams with them next year.
‘It was fabulous and it’s going from strength to strength,’ he said. ‘The teams will be coming back, and hopefully some new ones will be as well.
‘Adamstown said they are going to bring their kids over. It’s getting bigger and better.’
The Guernsey women’s side put on an exhibition game but Payne hopes that they, like the island’s juniors, will have some visiting opposition at next year’s event.
There was also a parade to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the governing body of the sport, the Gaelic Athletic Association.
