MORE than 90 local children were given an opportunity to train with professional ballet dancers at a special workshop over the weekend.
Four dancers from the English National Ballet visited the island ahead of their Live Dance show next month.
All the youngsters taking part in the event had danced before, but they said that this was a completely new experience for them.
Melrose pupil Jessica Bell, 11, wants to become a ballerina and said the workshop really helped her.
‘It wasn’t like ballet classes,’ she said.
‘It was more fun and energetic. It was quite tiring, but I would definitely do it again.’
Anik Hubert, 11, has been dancing since she was three.
‘I have never done anything like this before,’ she said.
‘It was really jazzy and fun.’
Friends Deanna Smart, 11, and Jodie Wilson, 12, said they had learnt lots of new skills.
