Our girl at Number 10

Tuesday 16th June 2009, 1:00PM BST.

A GUERNSEY girl has been given a look inside one of the most famous addresses in the country.

When 15-year-old Caroline Kyle was invited to a reception at Number 11, Downing Street, she never imagined she would leave through the Prime Minister’s front door.

Caroline, her mother, Jane, and Grammar School head teacher Jeff Smith attended a party at Number 11 to celebrate the work of a UK charity, Lawrence’s Roundabout Well Appeal.

When friends at the reception managed to sneak in for a tour of Number 10, she was determined to do so as well.

‘They came back talking about how they had got through [the buildings are interconnected] and had even seen Gordon Brown,’ said Caroline.

She wanted to go and kept finding excuses to go downstairs to see the guard who had given her friends the tour.

‘He noticed me and when I left he joked that I was under arrest and then said I hadn’t had my tour of Number 10. It was really exciting.’

Caroline went with the guard through an internal door into the Prime Minister’s house.

‘Mum wasn’t allowed to come, she was sent out [No. 11’s] front door,’ she said.

The appeal was put forward by Caroline as one of those to benefit from funds raised by Grammar School pupils and £3,000 was raised.
