Co-op has first Guernsey president for half a century
Wednesday 17th June 2009, 2:30PM BST.
FORMER deputy Peter Roffey has been named as the first Guernsey-based president of the Channel Islands Co-operative Society in 52 years.
He succeeds June Le Feuvre, who has had held the position for the last 10 years.
Mr Roffey (pictured) said he was taking over at an exciting time in the Co-op’s development.
‘I am confident that I will be heading an organisation which is not only commercially competent, but is totally committed to the co-operative ideals.’
He paid tribute to the work of Mrs Le Feuvre, who will be staying on the board for the time being as vice-president.
She said with the investment focus of the society switching to Guernsey for the next few years, for example with the Leale’s Yard development, it was a good time to have a Guernsey president again.
Mr Roffey added he expected the society to continue to grow.
‘We will be offering more services to our members and I will re-enforce the message that the Channel Islands Co-operative Society is essentially a not-for-profit organisation with all surpluses being either returned directly to the members or reinvested in the society they own.’

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
As a member of the Co-Op, I’d be interested to know how this appointment came about. Who makes the decision?
Perhaps somebody could shed some light on the situation…….

Phil – some members are more equal than others…like all politics – you have to enter the race to win.
Didn’t he have a position on the Co-op board before? There was something in the members interests register, from memory.
Does this effectively put him in charge of the Leale’s yard job, then?
