Laine proud to bear the flag
Wednesday 17th June 2009, 2:29PM BST.
TIM LAINE last night admitted his shock at being named as Guernsey’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the XIII Island Games.
The windsurfer (pictured) is already a veteran of six Games – all those which have included his sport – and has returned with every type of medal bar individual gold.
‘I’ll probably be nervous, but it is a unique experience and a great one,’ Laine said.
‘It is a wonderful thing to be asked to do.
‘I feel privileged and proud of it because
I am a born and bred Guernseyman.’
Two other Sarnians who will play prominent roles at the opening ceremony in Aland are swimmer Nicole Hewlett and table tennis starlet Kate Stubbington, the two youngest team members, who will be the water bearers.
