BRIAN LUCAS has made the early running in the hunt for the prestigious UV Trophy.

The 10-handicapper, who was runner-up in last year’s 72-hole competition on countback having finished level with winner Jason Savident, shot a fine six-under-par net 64 on day one at L’Ancresse.

He is a stroke ahead of the in-form Willie Kirkpatrick, the recent winner of the L’Ancresse GC’s Centenary Trophy, who carded an excellent gross 71 playing off six.

A further shot back are junior Tom Pattimore, Alex Burns and Kevin Lycett.

Credit Suisse Trophy holder Bobby Eggo leads that scratch competition once again thanks to an opening round 69.

His brother Andy and fellow island finalist Danny Blondel both returned cards of 70 while Jamie Blondel matched Kirkpatrick’s 71.Credit Suisse & UV Trophies
