Trainee priest in fight for his life

Wednesday 17th June 2009, 2:30PM BST.

PriestA GUERNSEY trainee priest is today fighting for his life after plunging from a loft window in London.

John Paul Lyttle, 28, was sitting on the window ledge when he fell at around 4am on Monday, landing on a concrete patio.

At the time, he was smoking with three other people, aged between 18 and 21, at a church-owned flat in Clifton Road, Isleworth.

Mr Lyttle’s family flew from Guernsey on Monday to be by his bedside, along with the priest who owns the Isleworth apartment.

He is currently being treated for severe head and back injuries at Charing Cross Hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

Detective Inspector Alan Holford, of Hounslow Police, said Mr Lyttle was a ‘clean living’ man who had been involved with the church all his life.

‘We are still investigating the circumstances, but it does appear to be a tragic incident rather than anything sinister,’ he said.

He said a family liaison officer had been appointed to help friends and family and that his thoughts went to John Paul and his family.

‘This is a tragic incident that has come as a shock to all those there at the time and also the family and friends of John Paul.’
