Royal visit to Viaer Marchi

The Earl and Countess of WessexTHE Viaer Marchi will have some Royal visitors this year.

The traditional Guernsey fair is just one of the events the Earl and Countess of Wessex (pictured) will attend during their two-day visit in July.

Preparations around the Bailiwick are well under way for the visit on Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 July.

The royal visitors will join thousands of islanders at the Viaer Marchi in Saumarez Park and view demonstrations of traditional Guernsey crafts, such as knitting, peg carving and crabpot making.

While in Guernsey, the couple will attend a meal hosted by the States and will meet representatives of local organisations at a reception at Government House. They will also visit Castle Cornet and the Priaulx Library.

The Earl of Wessex will unveil a granite stone during a visit to St Sampson’s High and Le Murier schools and the couple will meet pupils from Herm and Sark schools.

The focus in Alderney will be a visit to the harbour and breakwater, and gatherings at the Alderney Museum and Island Hall.

In Herm, The Earl and Countess will meet residents, visit Shell Beach and take a walk through the centre of the island’s countryside.

The royal couple will take a carriage ride in Sark and join residents at a reception at the Community Centre.

They will also visit La Seigneurie and its gardens, including the Seigneurie Garden Trust initiative.

    Just been put off going to one of my favourite shows of the year. It will be a media circus ……. and how are the security services going to be checking all the carrier bags of goodies, bric a brac, books, food etc which we all love to buy.

    Why can’t Edward and Sophie just go anonymously (0bviously with discreet security) – they would have much more fun?
