TWO Greenland adventurers say the effects of global warming definitely hampered their expedition.
Steve Wright and Simon Elmont arrived back in the island last month after their expedition was cut short due to Mr Elmont sustaining an ankle injury.
Mr Wright, from Alderney, told pupils at Melrose School yesterday that because of global warming the snow had been a lot thicker and had made the trek a lot harder.
‘When we arrived we were told that this was a global warming year,’ he said.
‘The temperature was a lot warmer than we were expecting.
‘When it’s very cold it doesn’t snow, so because it was warmer we were experiencing a lot of heavy snow.
‘This meant we had to plough through rather then just pulling our sledge along the ice.’
The temperature was around -2C, whereas it normally would have been -15.
The injury Mr Elmont sustained to his ankle is plantar fasciitis, which is a painful inflammatory condition usually caused by wear.
Mr Elmont, who is from Sark, said the fact that they had to work harder to get through the snow had caused the problem.

I think it’s a load of bull – global warming. I believe it is down to Mother nature and it’s as simple as that. Officially we are not out of the ice age and all this warming is part of the slow process of the earth warming up. When the ice age was in full swing and things begun melting there was no idustry and no CFCs – so what was the cause then ???

Paid consultants in lab coats calling themselves scientists today declared that Al Gore is now our 9th planet and his girth is still expanding.
Why did the global warmer cross the road? To get away from the killer bees, Elvis and the Easter Bunny, UFO’s, Y2K’s, …….
Climate Change IS real. It is also known as weather.
Happy Birthday Glowbull Warming, two years away from being a quarter of a century old and you can’t even crawl, let alone walk or have a freakin pulse for that matter.
What’s another word for sustainability? Poverty.
Sunny days will not be referred to sunny days anymore. They are now dangerously high UV days and to be avoided at all costs.
EnvironMENTAL ism causes global warming.

What makes your belief closer to the truth than thousands of scientists and reams of peer reviewed research?
Again, individualist ignorance stands in the way of progress. It’s so sad to see in a supposed educated place. But then we do have the 11 plus.
