Watson bows out

HEATHER WATSON’S run in the girls’ singles of the Aegon International Junior Championships came to an end yesterday.
The Sarnian star, who was the ninth seed, lost to the junior world number one Kristina Mladenovic 6-2, 6-4 in the quarter-finals in Roehampton.
However, Watson did progress to the semi-finals in the doubles competition with her Polish partner Magda Linette.
They defeated Ellen Algurin (Sweden) and Sachie Ishizu (Japan) 6-2, 6-0 and then overcame Lesley Kerkhove (Netherlands) and An-sophie Mestach (Belgium) 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals.
Watson and Linette, seeded sixth, now face Slovakian pair Jana Cepelova and Vivien Juhaszova for a place in the final.
