Guernsey 0, Gibraltar 0
GUERNSEY’S shortcomings in attack were highlighted once again as their first match in the Island Games ended a frustrating goalless draw with defending champions Gibraltar.
In temperatures more akin to the Mediterranean than the Baltic at the Solvallen football pitch in the west of Aland, the Sarnians dominated – but just could not find the back of the net.
‘It was frustrating, but our fitness showed in the second half when we were camped in their half and we created a lot of chances,’ said island captain Matt Warren.
‘Full credit to the lads. Some of the decisions didn’t go our way.
‘We worked really hard and the build up to this has been superb. We’re not out of it by a long way.
‘The next two games are important. It could go down to goal difference.’
In their remaining group games, Guernsey face Ynys Mon today and Froya tomorrow.
These are now must-win games for the Greens if they are to progress further in the competition.
