Mission goal spree
Tuesday 30th June 2009, 2:30PM BST.
TONY VANCE wants a goal spree from his side today as Guernsey look to book their place in the semi-finals of the Island Games in Aland.
His side won 2-0 against Ynys Mon yesterday at Vikingavallen while group rivals Gibraltar hit seven past minnows Froya, who face Guernsey today.
‘Obviously it is all about goals now,’ Vance (picturedf) said once he heard word of Gibraltar’s rout.
‘Gibraltar still have to get a win and so do we, but a big bonus is that we have Dave Rihoy coming in tomorrow and he is chomping at the bit.
‘We have to go about our business and get as many goals as we can. It is still in our own hands really.’
But it was not all rosy for Guernsey yesterday.
Glyn Dyer, who had broken the deadlock on the hour mark, was sent off for two yellow cards within the space of just a few minutes while Dominic Heaume was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after being briefly knocked out in an accidental clash of heads.
Guernsey’s second came from substitute Ross Allen with five minutes remaining.
‘With 10 men at the end of the game, I guess we cannot complain with a 2-0 win, although we missed several other chances for the third game running,’ Vance said.
‘It is not for the want of trying in training. That is the sort of things we have been working on.’
