Our EfW is almost micro-incineration

PUBLIC SERVICES has rejected a suggestion that it ignored the option of ‘micro-incineration’ when considering ways to solve the island’s waste problem.
Former panel of inquiry chairman Roger Dadd (pictured) had urged deputies to have the ‘courage’ to reject PSD’s plans to build an incinerator at Longue Hougue.
He said both his panel’s report, published four-and-a-half years ago, and that produced last year by the Independent People’s Panel on Waste Disposal recommended building a micro-incinerator while developing ways of dealing with remaining waste, such as recycling.
But PSD yesterday said its proposed treatment facility was designed specifically for Guernsey and no smaller-scale alternative would meet local requirements.
Minister Bernard Flouquet said States members had fully considered the island’s requirements and the resulting tendering process had not excluded companies from putting forward alternatives.
PSD is proposing an integrated, modular facility combining materials recovery, energy from waste and bottom ash processing and with an initial capacity of between 45,000 and 57,000 tonnes per annum.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
It seems as though Roger Dadd’s recommendations were not what the PSD wished to hear, and, despite his report they want to proceed with thier own agenda. In view of the huge cost, and the other options I hope States Members who favour the PSD proposal, but have private doubts, will be brave enough to change thier views. The public will respect them for doing the sensible thing. You are allowed to change your mind, right up to the minute of the vote.

Even the micro incinerators proposed by the Rational Alternative team aren’t that micro so how Burny has the gall to call his mass burn option ‘almost micro’ I just don’t know.
PSD, with the help of its newly appointed in-house PR man/spin doctor, paid for by us, has been misrepresenting its proposals right from the start.
Remember the ‘waste matters’ pullout in the press that announced the coming of the Suez plant. The headline was something like ‘Recycling at the Heart of Future Waste Strategy’. It should have read ‘mass burn incineration at the heart of future waste strategy’.
Watch Burny and his men step up the pro mass-burn propaganda in the run-up to the debate. Let’s hope not too many of our elected representatives are fooled by it.

Dead on Martyn.
The Massburners are up to everything in the hope of getting their madness through.
WASTE ON
should be their slogan.
Import and BURN.
Simple eh?
Short cuts through the personal responsibility.
And the Government’s.
Trouble is there are civil servants totally wedded to MASS BURN INCINERATION. Hey its what they studied at Uni.
It was their first LOVE.

The problem with the PSD Mass Burner & Mr Dorey’s Micro Incinerator, is neither have taken into account what the people of St Sampsons feel about having an incinerator in the middle of their parish. The question is continually being raised by the parishioners, but it is always ignored. If PSD had put their incinerator at Chouet, then we would have had a mass burner 4 years ago.
