DARREN KONKEN made the most of glorious conditions to lower the senior max record at the Track.
On a day full of quick lap times, Konken set a new best in his class of 19.74sec. in the Bridge Motor Shop-sponsored fourth round of the GK&MC’s Summer Championship.
Konken started on pole in the first heat with youngster Chester Dodsworth alongside.
At the start he leapt into the lead and was not challenged throughout the race, building up a lead of nearly seven seconds.
Dodsworth was having a hard time trying to hold Matt Corson behind him, but kept his nerve and they finished a close second and third.
A three-kart crash on Marais corner on the first lap of the second heat allowed pole sitter Mark Ferbrache to go into the lead and he was delighted with his first ever win.
The only other competitor not to crash was Dodsworth, who followed Ferbrache closely for the whole race.
Dodsworth made the best of his front starting position in heat three and he drove defensively the whole race to be pushed across the line by second placed Konken.
There were no surprises in the final as Konken went into the lead on the first corner and stayed there for the remainder of the race.
