BLUE ISLANDS is hoping to secure a licence to operate an ATR turboprop in an effort to expand its fleet.

The airline will run a test flight to London City Airport using the craft as part of the final stages of its application.

However, Blue Islands denied suggestions that it had any immediate plans to operate a service to London City if the licence is granted.

Chairman Derek Coates (pictured) said: ‘Blue Islands is in the final stages of an application for an Air Operators’ Licence for the ATR in order that we can expand our fleet in the future.

‘As part of this procedure, what is known as a route proving flight with air crew, cabin crew and 20 passengers must be flown under CAA supervision.

‘A destination airport is required and we have chosen London City simply because our ATR is equipped for a steep glide slope descent and by having this approved by the CAA, it also gives the airline the flexibility in the future to fly to London City if we should so desire.’Blue Islands goes for ATR licence but denies City link is imminent
