A TEENAGER was seriously injured on Saturday night when he smashed through a shop window during a fight.
The 17-year-old was rushed to hospital after collapsing as eyewitnesses described blood ‘pouring’ from his neck after he had gone through the Pollet Pharmacy’s window during a struggle with another man.
Two males were arrested after the incident.
The fight broke out between late-night partygoers at about 11.30pm. A 23-year-old witness, who asked not to be named, said a drunken argument had very quickly become extremely violent.
‘It was instant violence,’ he said. ‘Then chaos ensued and as two of the men were grabbing hold of each other, throwing punches and tussling, their momentum spun them around and put them both through the window.
‘Then friends of both men jumped in and threw punches. One of the guys that went through the window then staggered off and appeared to have glass in his neck. I saw him standing in the doorway of Christies with a lot of blood pouring from his neck. There appeared to be a huge wound.’
The witness said the teenager then collapsed as police, who cordoned off the whole area for about an hour, arrived on the scene.
Police Inspector Terry Coule confirmed the incident.
‘There was an assault and one man sustained serious injuries,’ he said. ‘A number of young men had been fighting and the injured man received serious lacerations. Two men have been arrested and we are continuing to investigate the incident.’
An Ambulance and Rescue Service spokesman said the injuries were not life-threatening.
