TWO former members of the Guernsey Fishermen’s Trading Company have plans for the fishmonger side of the business.
Andy Le Prevost and Andy Loader took over the running of Seafresh on 1 June after the cooperative was wound up earlier this year.
‘We had to keep this going for the public. It’s the only traditional fishmonger’s on the island. Fish comes in and goes straight on the shelf. To have lost it would have been a terrible thing for the public and visitors,’ said Mr Le Prevost.
Since the takeover, a new range of produce has been made available. As well as a large selection of fish and shellfish, they aim to cater for the lunchtime market with dressed crab, seafood platters and takeaway meals.
‘We are going to expand it generally,’ said Mr Le Prevost. ‘As part of the upgrade on the premises we are getting a new roof. It’s just a general upgrade so we can continue growing.’
Between them they have more than 60 years of experience in the industry which they feel enables them to source top quality produce.
The shop at Castle Emplacement is only a short distance from the Fish Quay.
‘We are only five minutes away from putting the fish on sale from when it is landed from the boats,’ he said. ‘That’s totally unique. You can’t get fresher fish than that anywhere in the island.’
