2009 Beaveree
Friday 17th July 2009, 4:14PM BST.
MORE than 300 Beaver Scouts from Guernsey and Jersey recently enjoyed an afternoon of activities, challenges and fun.
The youngsters, all aged from six to eight, gathered at the Jersey Scout Centre, St Ouen, for the Beaveree, for which leaders and helpers had dressed as pirates.
The Beaver Scouts walked the plank, made paper parrots, decorated bandanas, puzzled over treasure map clues, made pirate jewellery and flags and wrote messages in bottles, which they swapped with a Beaver Scout from the other island in the hope that the Guernsey and Jersey youngsters will be able to keep in touch with each other.
Newly-appointed UK Scout Association chief commissioner Wayne Bulpitt attended the event, along with Jersey commissioner James Le Feuvre and even Oscar Puffin.
Organiser Pat Green, Brown Beaver of the 6th Trinity Scout Colony, said that she had been delighted with the event and thanked the leaders and parent helpers for their support in making the day a success.
Next year’s Beaveree will be hosted by Guernsey.
