IN ONE of their best performances for 20 years, the Elizabeth College rifle-shooting team came third in the main event for schools at Bisley, the Ashburton, to win NRA bronze medals.

The College VIII shot consistently well at all three ranges – 300, 500 and 600 yards.

The match was won by Gresham’s School with Scotland’s Dollar Academy in second place.

Max Barber scored a possible at 300 yards, 35 ex 35, watched by his father, Gresham, who shot for the College in the same event in the 1960s.

Gresham’s own father, also Max, represented the College at Bisley in the 1930s, making it a three-generation first for the College.

Elizabeth College beat Victoria College, Jersey, by no fewer than 40 points to retain the inter-island trophy, the Haines Shield.

The Guernsey team also won the Cottesloe Vase, eight NRA gold medals, and the RSM Milson Trophy.

They were awarded  NRA silver medals for second place in the Kinder Cup at 300 yards.
